Northside Comprehensive Guidance Program
Student Skill Goals
We utilize the Northside Comprehensive Guidance Program’s Student Skill Goals when preparing
and delivering our lessons. Lessons conducted by the Bob Beard Guidance Counselors will
focus on one of the following seven skill goals.
• Self-Confidence Development
Students will: manage their feelings, have accurate self-concepts, value their uniqueness
• Motivation to Achieve
Students will: take advantage of educational opportunities, develop their academic potential, take responsibility for their educational planning, understand how career choices affect lifestyles
• Decision Making and Problem Solving
Students will: solve problems, make good decisions, set goals and make plans, accept consequences of decisions
• Interpersonal Effectiveness
Students will: make and keep friends, understand and respect peers’ and adults’ feelings and behaviors, participate effectively in groups
• Communication Skills
Students will: understand communication skills, listen to others, express themselves
• Cross-cultural Effectiveness
Students will: respect family units, respect traditions of community, respect their own cultural heritage,
respect effectively with others based on appreciation for differences
• Responsible Behavior
Students will: accept responsibility for behavior, manage time, be self-disciplined, respect laws
